Editors
The Canadian Jewish Historical Society Journal was founded in 1977 under the editorship of Rabbi Dr. Jonathan V. Plaut (1942-2012), who served as spiritual leader of Congregation Beth El, in Windsor, Ont., until 1984. Plaut, the author of The Jews of Windsor, 1790–1990, was also a founding member of the Canadian Jewish Historical Society.
Dr. Stephen Speisman (1943-2008), the journal's contributing editor until 1984, took over as editor in 1985 after Plaut moved to California. Speisman, the founding director of the Ontario Jewish Archives from 1973 to 1999, was the author of The Jews of Toronto: A History to 1937.
Leila Panzer (1946-2019), worked as the journal's assistant editor for its final three volumes, in 1985 and 1988. Panzer, who was married to Speisman, was a staff reporter at The Canadian Jewish News in the 1980s and 1990s.
